Seriously, is there a rule that whoever is Ant-Man has to be a criminal?

Hank Pym abused his wife, then actually became a villain. Scott Lang was a burglar–he literally stole his way into becoming a superhero.

Of course, that’s nothing compared to the new Ant-Man, who not only also stole the suit, but disfigured his former mentor, who had come to recover the stolen property. If that’s not enough, he even regularly uses his shrinking powers to spy on heroines in various states of undress!

You wanna talk about superheroes who are assholes, The Irredeemable Ant-Man is all you need to say.
