#252- New Gods Rising
In case you haven’t heard, The Spirit is, while admittedly not doing horribly, certainly not performing as well as might have been hoped. Apparently, people are not a fan of making Will Eisner’s character look like Frank Miller’s character.
Still! It’s possible that Mr. Miller just didn’t choose the right property. I say, why not try the New Gods? He could totally make it work, with his own unique spin.
What? You don’t think so? Oh well, the posters were fun. If you want a full-size version of this, here it is. You can also head over to Poe’s to see a character poster for Orion, and I’m thinking about a Darkseid one, too. Whatcha guys think?
(And no, newgodsrising.com isn’t an actual website–I was tempted, though. This close. I swear.)

The spirit’s only flaws in my opinion were the modern updates, and that Scarlett Johansson didn’t get more air time. Then again, I never read the original spirit material.

To be fair, the lack of adequate screen time for Scarlett Johansson is a flaw in EVERY movie.

Painfully true, painfully true…

Excellent. There has got to be a Big Barda joke in there somewhere, too…

Not enough Scarlett Johansson airtime is a sin.

I rather liked Gabriel Macht as the Spirit though. For one thing, his face is similar to the way Will Eisner (Or the various then-uncredited-but-now-credited ghost artists) drew the Spirit. Big chin and such. Plus, it was a very Frank Miller story, and I’m a big Miller fan (Excluding the goddamn recent goddamn Bat-Stories).
Also, the Mezco Spirit figure is great. Great sculpt, paint. and articulation. Can’t say the same for the rest of the line though. They’re all too McStatue-y.
